Williams Wood sits just outside Woodbridge, a proper Suffolk forest that doesn't require a pilgrimage to find but rewards a quiet morning walk all the same. It's mixed woodland - the sort of place where you crunch through leaf litter between conifers and broadleaves, and the air smells like damp earth and pine. There are paths threaded through, nothing too taxing, ideal if you want to stretch your legs without a proper hike.

This is walker territory, frankly. Not somewhere to bring the kids expecting drama or facilities - it's just trees and space and the odd bird call. If you're the sort who finds that restorative rather than boring, you'll get on with it fine. An hour, maybe ninety minutes depending on how far you wander. The lack of crowds is its biggest selling point.

Being so close to Woodbridge makes it a solid addition to a broader exploration of the area. If you're based at Run Cottage Touring Park nearby or heading up from Felixstowe Beach Holiday Park further south, Williams Wood works as a morning escape from the caravan before lunch back in town. It's free, obviously - it's a wood - and there's no faff with opening hours because you just rock up and walk.

Don't expect signposting or a car park with amenities. It's one of those places that reveals itself gradually, gets better the more slowly you move through it. Worth the detour if woodland walking is your thing, less so if you need something to *do*.
