Low Skirts

The name alone stops you in your tracks - Low Skirts is a proper Suffolk woodland, sitting just east of Woodbridge, and it's the sort of place that rewards a quiet morning walk far more than a rushed afternoon visit. You're looking at mixed forest with decent footpaths, the kind where you might actually spot something wildlife-wise if you're patient and move slowly enough. It's free to access, which helps, and you can easily spend an hour or two threading through the trees without feeling pressured to 'do' anything in particular.

Walkers will get the most out of Low Skirts - it's not dramatic scenery or a destination in itself, but rather a proper working woodland where you can clear your head. Children might find it engaging for a solid hour, maybe ninety minutes if you're lucky and they're keen on bug-spotting, but don't expect dramatically exciting trails. The Suffolk flatlands don't offer much elevation, so views are limited to tree canopy and undergrowth.

If you're based at one of the caravan parks nearby - Run Cottage Touring Park is barely two miles away, or Steadings Park a touch further - Low Skirts works well as a morning outing before heading to Woodbridge itself for lunch. Combine it with a riverside walk along the Deben and you've got a solid half-day. It's the kind of stop that justifies itself only if you're already in the area staying put rather than chasing attractions across the county. Worth knowing about, certainly. Worth rerouting for? Probably not.
