White Croft Hill

White Croft Hill sits on the edge of the Pennines just outside Skipton, offering a proper fell walk that won't eat up your whole afternoon. The summit itself is modest - you're looking at around 300 metres of elevation - but the views across Airedale and towards the Yorkshire Dales are genuinely worth the leg work, especially on a clear day when you can pick out Pen-y-ghent in the distance.

It's a straightforward walk from the car park, taking most people between 45 minutes to an hour and a half depending on your pace and how many times you stop to catch your breath on the steeper bits. The terrain is typical Pennine moorland: well-trodden paths, gritstone underfoot, a bit boggy in places after rain. Walkers and fell runners will get the most from it, though it's perfectly manageable for anyone with decent fitness and proper boots.

If you're staying at Thornton Hall Country Park just down the road, or one of the other glamping spots like Deerstone, this makes a cracking morning or late-afternoon outing. Holgates Ribble Valley and Shay Gate Farm Campsite are also within striking distance if you fancy combining it with a broader Dales exploration. There's no visitor centre or facilities at the summit itself - bring water and a snack if you plan to linger. Free to access, open year-round, though winter conditions can make it slippery. Worth doing, genuinely.
