Weston Sprink

Walk into Weston Sprink and you're immediately surrounded by proper woodland - the kind where the canopy does the heavy lifting and light filters through in scattered patches. It's a forest tucked away near Stoke-on-Trent that doesn't announce itself loudly, which is rather refreshing. The paths are well-trodden enough that you won't get lost, but quiet enough that you might only pass one or two other walkers in an afternoon.

This is genuinely good territory for people who want to stretch their legs without faffing about. Walkers will find it rewarding - there's enough ground to cover that it feels like a proper outing rather than a quick twenty-minute mooch. The woodland itself is the draw here; no visitor centre, no gift shop, no manufactured experience. Just trees, paths, and a bit of peace.

If you're staying at Stone Wall Farm CL or one of the other caravan sites within five miles - Springfields, Hales Hall, or Woodview - Weston Sprink makes an excellent half-day venture. It's close enough that you're not burning petrol endlessly, but far enough from the caravan park that you genuinely feel like you've gone somewhere. The forest works best in autumn when the light's kinder and the paths aren't waterlogged.

Bring decent shoes though. The ground can be boggy after rain, and there's no obvious facility information available, so you're essentially going in blind - though that's part of its charm. It's the sort of place that rewards a bit of spontaneity and doesn't require military-grade planning.
