The walk up to Wetley Common's highest point is straightforward enough, and on a clear day the views across the Staffordshire moorlands are genuinely worth the effort. You're looking out over proper open country here - the kind of landscape that feels genuinely remote despite being within striking distance of Stoke-on-Trent.

It's not a dramatic peak or anything. The summit itself is fairly understated, which is half the charm. There's no café, no visitor centre, no crowds to battle through. Just moorland, sky, and on good visibility the chance to pick out landmarks across the region. Bring binoculars if you're into that sort of thing.

The walk itself takes about an hour depending on your pace and which route you choose. It's manageable for families with reasonably fit kids, though the moorland paths can get boggy after wet weather. If you're based at one of the nearby caravan sites - Luzlow is practically on the doorstep at half a mile - this makes a cracking half-day outing. Stone Wall Farm and Glencote are also close enough for an easy morning stroll. Free to access and open year-round, though winter here can be properly windswept. Spring and early autumn work best. Don't expect facilities at the top, so pack a flask and snacks.
