Westergate Methodist Church

The Methodist chapel on Westergate's high street is a proper little slice of Victorian faith and community life. Built in the 19th century, it's a red-brick structure with all the characteristic Methodist simplicity - clean lines, no excess, just solid craftsmanship and purpose. The interior holds a working organ and a few original fixtures that tell you something about how these places actually functioned as the heart of village society.

It's not a major draw, to be honest. You won't spend hours here. But if you're cycling through West Sussex or staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - Camp and Touring at Old Farm Slindon is just over two miles away, or Rowan Park in Bognor Regis if you want somewhere slightly bigger - it's worth a five-minute detour to clock the architecture and get a feel for what mattered to people here a century ago. The setting itself is pleasant, and you're close enough to Bognor Regis if you need shops or sea air.

Archy or religious heritage fans will find it quietly interesting. Young kids will find it dull unless they're already into old buildings. Opening times and admission aren't always clear cut with these smaller chapels - best ringing ahead or checking locally when you arrive. It works best as part of a wider wander through Westergate's village streets rather than a destination in itself.
