West Cawledge Park

You'll find West Cawledge Park just outside Morpeth, a proper woodland reserve that feels worlds away from the main road despite being barely ten minutes from town. It's the kind of place where you can wander for an hour or three without seeing another soul - dense trees, open clearings, and enough woodland paths to keep you poking about for half a day if you've got the time.

The reserve works best for walkers and nature types rather than families after a quick splash about. There are decent trails through the trees, and if you're into birds or spotting wildlife, you'll find proper value here. The woodland itself is varied enough that you won't get bored trudging the same circuit twice - mature trees, younger growth, and the odd boggy bit that adds character.

No admission charge that I can find, and you can visit whenever suits you. Allow a couple of hours minimum if you want to actually explore rather than just do a lap. Peak season brings more people, but even then it's relatively quiet compared to managed country estates.

If you're based at Percy Wood Holiday Park or Woodland Chase Glamping - both within 5 miles - this makes a solid morning or afternoon out without needing to drive far. It won't blow your mind, but it's solid woodland with genuine walking routes. Not the sort of place to shout about on social media, just somewhere useful to have on your list when you need fresh air and trees.
