The Welsh Museum of Fire sits in Swansea and tells the story of firefighting across Wales - a subject you'd think would be niche until you actually walk through the doors. What you're looking at are restored fire engines, uniforms, equipment, and the real stories of the people who've run into burning buildings. Some of it's genuinely moving, particularly the exhibits about major fires and how crews have evolved over decades.

It's the sort of place that works brilliantly for families with kids aged six upwards - there's enough hands-on stuff to keep them engaged for a couple of hours, though teenagers might lose interest unless they're already keen on industrial history or mechanical things. Adults get proper value from the detail; the engineering is impressive if you look at it closely. The real strength is how human it all feels rather than just being a collection of old equipment.

If you're staying at Riverside Holiday Park or SWDA Riverside - both just a couple of miles away - this makes a solid half-day outing when the weather's dodgy. Entry costs are modest and it won't dominate a full day. Worth checking opening hours before you visit, as smaller museums can be variable. Swansea Marina Tourer Park is a bit further out but still within easy reach if that's your base. It's not a "must do" attraction, but if fire safety fascinates you or you've got restless kids, it's well worth the trip into town.
