The undulating grassland at Wavy Top Wildlife near Barrow upon Soar has a rather brilliant name, and it actually lives up to it. The terrain rolls and dips like someone's draped a blanket over a sleeping giant, which makes it far more interesting than your standard flat meadow. You're looking at a proper wildlife hotspot - the kind of place where you'll spot butterflies, skylarks, and with luck, a few rarer species depending on the season.

It's ideal for anyone who fancies a gentle walk without the crowds. Unlike the more famous Bradgate Park just five miles away, this spot stays mercifully quiet. Families with young kids will manage fine here; the undulations mean children can have a proper explore without it turning into a gruelling slog. Birdwatchers and wildflower enthusiasts should absolutely make the trip, especially in spring and early summer when the grassland's at its best.

There's no visitor centre or facilities to speak of - bring water if you're planning to spend an hour or more. Free admission, naturally, and you can visit any time. Allow an hour for a decent mooch around, longer if you're serious about spotting wildlife. If you're camping at one of the nearby sites like Proctors Park or High Meadows Farm, this makes a cracking morning or evening walk. Combine it with Bradgate Park's more formal trails for a proper two-day package.
