A twenty-minute drive south of Leamington Spa sits this modest woodland reserve, and it's genuinely worth the detour if you're after a proper walk without the crowds. Wappenbury Wood offers something straightforward: mature woodland, open glades, and enough footpaths to keep you occupied for an hour or two without feeling like you've hiked the Pennines.

The reserve works best for walkers and families with school-age kids. Younger children might find it a bit samey after forty minutes - it's woodland, not adventure playground - but if they're into spotting birds or insects, the mix of open and wooded terrain gives decent opportunities. Keen naturalists will appreciate the variety of trees and the seasonal changes, though it's not rare or particularly dramatic.

There's no entrance fee and no fixed opening hours to worry about, which makes dropping in straightforward. Allow an hour and a half if you're doing the full loop without rushing. Spring and early autumn beat summer for actually enjoying the walk without being eaten alive by insects.
