Upper Coberley

The walk up Upper Coberley rewards you with proper Cotswolds views - rolling countryside that stretches all the way to the Black Mountains on a clear day. It's not a dramatic summit, more a high point that makes sense when you're already out walking the area near Cheltenham, but the effort feels worth it once you're up there.

The climb itself takes about 45 minutes from the village of Coberley, and it's a steady rather than punishing gradient. Walkers will find this a decent addition to a longer route through the Cotswold hills - the kind of thing you'd combine with nearby tracks rather than drive out specifically for. Families with older children who can manage a couple of hours on their feet will get something out of it, though younger kids might find it a bit of a slog for what's essentially open fields at the top.

There's no visitor centre, no facilities, nothing commercialised about it. You park near the village and go. It costs nothing and you can do it in an afternoon, which makes it handy if you're staying at one of the glamping sites clustered around here - Big Skies or Star Glamping are barely two miles away - or the larger campsite at Cheltenham Racecourse further out. The real appeal is that it fits naturally into a walking holiday where you're exploring the wider Cotswold landscape rather than ticking off famous spots. On a quiet weekday morning it's genuinely peaceful.
