Uplyme Pinetum

A collection of conifers and exotic trees planted on the slopes above Uplyme village, just inland from Bridport. It's genuinely quiet - the sort of place you stumble upon rather than queue for. Walk through the trees, spot the different species labels if you're into that sort of thing, and emerge onto decent views toward the coast. Takes maybe forty minutes to an hour depending on how you wander.

Families with younger kids might find it a bit sparse for a full afternoon - there's no playground, no café, just trees and paths. Older children who like exploring, or anyone keen on horticulture, will get more from it. The real appeal is the escape rather than the destination itself.

It's free to access and works well as a quick detour if you're staying at Seadown or Newlands Holiday Park nearby. Pair it with a beach walk or a proper ramble through the coastal paths rather than banking the whole morning on the pinetum alone. Winter and early spring are decent times to visit when the wider landscape shows through the branches. Summer crowds aren't really a factor here - if anything, it feels almost forgotten, which is either refreshing or a sign you could spend your time elsewhere.
