Nutcombe Coppice

A small woodland patch just outside Bridport that does exactly what it says on the tin - gives you trees, a bit of peace, and a proper walk without needing to commit to anything grand. Nutcombe Coppice is the kind of place locals know and tourists stumble upon by accident, which is precisely why it works.

The forest itself isn't vast. You're looking at maybe an hour's ramble through mixed woodland, with the usual suspects underfoot - moss, leaf mulch, the occasional bramble reaching out to snag your trousers. The paths are straightforward enough, though muddy patches are guaranteed after rain. It's walking country rather than stroll-and-cafe country. Families with primary-school kids will get a decent outing here; anything younger and you'll spend more time managing than enjoying.

There's no visitor centre, no gift shop, no crowds. Free to access, as far as I can tell - it reads like proper common land rather than a managed attraction. Perfect if you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Newlands or Seadown, both just under a mile away, and fancy stretching your legs without driving anywhere.

Worth the detour? Only if you're already in the area. On its own, it's too small to justify a special trip. But slot it into a Bridport break - maybe pair it with the coastal walks at Golden Cap, which is only 3.6 miles down the road - and you've got yourself a tidy morning out. Go early if you want any sense of solitude.
