Tysoe Windmill

You'll spot it from the road long before you reach it - a proper old red sandstone tower standing alone on the ridge above the village of Tysoe, just south of Warwick. This is what's left of a windmill that ground corn for the local area back in the 18th and 19th centuries. The tower itself is the real survivor here; the sails and machinery are long gone, but the structure tells you everything about the industrial landscape Warwickshire once was.

It's not a place to spend hours. You can walk up to it fairly easily from the village below - the climb takes twenty minutes or so, depending on your fitness - and you get a decent view across the countryside once you're there. The windmill itself you can only really admire from the outside; there's no visitor centre or interpretation boards that I could find. But if you're into industrial archaeology or just want a decent walk with a purpose, it works well.

Historically minded types will appreciate it more than families with young kids, to be honest. There's not much to do once you've reached it besides have a look and take photos. Bring a map and consider combining it with other walks in the area if you're staying at one of the nearby campsites like Crofts Barn or Shire Camping. The village itself is quiet, so this is really a bonus activity rather than a destination in its own right. Warwick town centre is close enough if you need more substantial attractions.
