Twyn Langwilyn

The walk up Twyn Langwilyn rewards you with proper views across the Black Mountains and beyond - a real belter if the weather plays along. It's not the most famous peak around Crickhowell, but that's rather the point. You get the space to yourself, which makes a genuine difference.

From the summit you're looking across rolling moorland toward the Brecon Beacons to the west, and down into the valleys that feed toward Crickhowell itself. The hill is steep enough to feel like an achievement without eating up half your day. Allow two hours there and back, depending on fitness and how long you linger at the top.

Walkers will get the most from this one. It's not a casual stroll - proper boots and a decent level of fitness help - but it's entirely manageable for anyone who's done a few Welsh hills. The terrain can be boggy and the ascent unrelenting in places, so don't underestimate it. Families with older kids might manage it, though younger ones could find it a slog.
