Tòrr Mòr

The climb to Tòrr Mòr is properly steep - no two ways about it. This Argyll peak rises above the Kintyre peninsula like a command, and from the top you're looking out across the Irish Sea towards the Mull of Kintyre itself. The walk itself takes the best part of two hours up from the lower slopes, and you'll know you've earned it when you reach the summit cairn.

What makes it worth the slog is the reward. On a clear day, you can see right across to Ireland. The surrounding moorland is open and windswept - bring layers, because the weather can turn fast up here. This is walker territory rather than a casual stroll, so it suits people who don't mind genuine effort for their views. Families with older kids who are into the outdoors will get something from it; younger children will find it a hard graft without much to do at the top beyond admire the vista.

There's no visitor centre or facilities at the peak itself - you're on your own up there, which is precisely what makes it appealing. The nearest town is Campbeltown, which serves as your supply point before heading out. If you're based at Carradale Bay Holiday Park just 1.5 miles away, this makes a solid day out to break up a park stay. Go early to beat the weather, and don't attempt it in poor visibility - the moorland all looks the same once the clouds roll in.
