Troserch Woods

Walk into Troserch Woods and you're immediately surrounded by proper Welsh woodland - dense trees, dappled light, and the kind of quiet that makes you forget Llanelli is just down the road. It's a straightforward forest walk rather than a manicured nature reserve, which means muddy paths, fallen logs to clamber over, and actual trees doing their thing instead of looking photogenic.

The woods work best for families with kids old enough to enjoy a decent trudge, or for walkers after a quick morning sortie without the faffing about of grander destinations. You'll spend anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours depending on which trails you fancy and whether you're stopping to peer into the undergrowth every five minutes. There's no visitor centre or marked information boards - it's just woods, which is rather refreshing.

Getting here from South Wales Touring Park, barely a mile away, is dead handy for caravan holidays. If you're based at River View or Gateway Resort further afield, it's still worth the short drive. The woodland doesn't demand much planning - free access, no admission fees that we can find, and you can turn up whenever suits. Early morning is nicest before other walkers arrive, and autumn colours make it worth revisiting if you're camping locally through October.

It's not going to blow your mind, but as an undemanding woodland leg-stretch alongside a wider South Wales park holiday, Troserch does the job. Don't expect drama or distant views. Just expect trees and the pleasant knowledge that you've got some proper walking in before breakfast.
