Trinity Hill Forestry England

Three hundred acres of mixed woodland overlooking the Dorset coast - that's what Trinity Hill offers, and it's genuinely worth the drive from Bridport. The forestry is managed by Forestry England, so you get proper maintained trails rather than hacking through overgrown bramble, which makes a real difference when you've got kids in tow.

Most people come for the walking. There are routes through beech and oak, with views towards the coast on a clear day, and the paths range from gentle loops to proper leg-burners depending on your fitness level. It's not dramatic scenery - no dramatic hills or theatrical vistas - but it's the kind of place that grows on you. Quiet. Calming. The sort of spot where you actually notice birdsong.

Trinity Hill works beautifully as a morning activity if you're staying at Seadown or Newlands Holiday Parks nearby - both within five miles and properly rated by families. You could easily spend two to three hours here, or knock out a quick forty-minute circuit if the weather's turning. Bring proper footwear; the ground gets boggy after rain, and there are roots to watch for.

Historically it's less interesting than some Dorset woodland sites - no ancient monuments or Second World War bunkers to hunt for - so history buffs might find it straightforward. But for walkers after genuine peace and decent exercise without travelling far from the coast, it delivers.
