Trevone Natural Sea Pool

The sea pool at Trevone is one of those proper Cornish finds that doesn't need planning permission or fancy facilities - just good timing and a bit of luck with the tides. You've got a natural rock formation that fills with seawater as the tide comes in, creating a sheltered swimming spot that's far gentler than the open beach. It's the sort of place where locals know what they're doing and visitors spend twenty minutes trying to work out the best entry point.

What makes it work is the simplicity. No changing rooms, no lifeguards, no entry fee. You get there, you swim in proper seawater, you get out. The pool drains as the tide falls, so you need to time it right - checking tide times before you go isn't optional, it's essential. The walk down to the beach takes about ten minutes from the village of Trevone itself, which sits just outside Padstow.

It's brilliant for families with confident swimmers, less ideal for toddlers or nervous types. Strong swimmers appreciate having a defined swimming area rather than battling the open sea, and it's a decent spot for a morning dip before breakfast. Allow an hour in total, more if you're making a proper morning of it.

If you're staying at Padstow Holiday Village or Dennis Cove Campsite, both within a couple of miles, this works as a nice addition to beach days rather than a destination in itself. Combine it with a walk around Trevone village or a trip into Padstow proper, and you've got a decent half-day sorted.
