Trevone Round Hole

There's a proper geological oddity tucked into the clifftops above Trevone Bay that stops most people in their tracks. The Round Hole is exactly what it sounds like - a circular tunnel bored clean through the headland, creating a natural archway that frames the beach and sea beyond. It's the kind of thing that looks photoshopped until you're actually standing in front of it.

The hole itself is about 20 metres across, and you can walk right through it. The best approach is from the beach at low tide, though you can also reach it via the clifftop path if the sand's not accessible. Either way, allow half an hour to explore properly - the light changes as you move through it, and the coastal views from inside are genuinely striking.

Walkers will appreciate this more than anyone else. It's a natural focal point on the South West Coast Path, and the surrounding cliffs are spectacular whether conditions are clear or moody. Kids find it magical, though it's not a destination that needs more than an hour of your time unless you're the type who sits about with a thermos watching the light.

If you're staying at Porthilly Beach Holiday Park, it's practically on your doorstep - only three miles away. Even from St Minver, at under five miles, it's an easy morning outing. Free to visit, naturally. Go at low tide for the full experience and expect to share it with other visitors during school holidays. Outside peak season you might have it to yourself.
