Trelissick Gallery

The gallery sits within Trelissick estate, a sprawling National Trust property just outside Truro where the art collection shares space with proper gardens and woodland walks. Inside, you'll find rotating exhibitions of contemporary work alongside a permanent collection that leans toward British art - nothing stuffy, just well-chosen pieces that actually make you stop and look properly.

It's worth a morning if you're into galleries but not a reason to plan your entire holiday around. The real draw here is combining it with the grounds themselves. You can easily spend three hours wandering between the house, the gallery space, and the gardens that run down toward the River Fal. The woodland paths are genuinely lovely, and on a clear day the views across the river valley justify the drive alone.

Families with older kids will get something out of it, though younger ones might find the gallery bit tedious after twenty minutes. The grounds work better for that crew - they can run about, burn energy, and you get a proper break.

If you're camping at Carnon Downs or Trethem Mill, both within a couple of miles, Trelissick makes an excellent rainy-day backup or half-day activity. Check opening hours before you go - like many National Trust properties, it's not always open year-round, and you'll need to factor in admission costs. The estate cafe does decent enough coffee and cake if you need sustenance between the art and the walks.
