Traeth Mawr

Sand stretches endlessly in both directions at this lovely sweep of coastline, though don't expect the crowds of Anglesey's more famous beaches. Traeth Mawr lives up to its Welsh name - 'big beach' - with proper space to spread out even on busy summer days.

Families with young children will find this spot particularly good, as the sand shelves gently into shallow water that warms nicely on sunny afternoons. The beach lacks facilities, so pack everything you need including fresh water and snacks. Rock pools appear at low tide near the southern end, keeping curious kids entertained for hours.

Walkers appreciate the uninterrupted views across to the Llyn Peninsula on clear days. The beach forms part of a longer coastal path, though you'll want proper boots if venturing beyond the sand.

From Ty Croes, the nearest village, it's a pleasant drive through typical Anglesey countryside. Several holiday parks dot the area within a few miles, including Trewan Sands Caravan Park and Y Fronydd Caravan & Camping Park, making this a decent day trip option when staying locally. Just remember that Welsh weather can turn quickly - even in summer, it's worth packing windbreakers alongside the sun cream.
