Porth Cadwaladr

The walk down to Porth Cadwaladr rewards you with one of Anglesey's quieter beaches - no ice cream vans, no deckchairs for hire, just a proper slice of Welsh coastline that feels genuinely removed from the tourist trail. It's a small cove with golden sand backed by low cliffs, the kind of place where you can actually hear the waves and spot the occasional seal if you're lucky.

The approach from Ty Croes is straightforward enough, though the final descent is a bit steeper than you'd expect, so take it slowly if you've got young children in tow. Once you're down there, the beach itself is manageable for families - shallow enough for paddling, with rock pools that keep kids entertained for a good hour or so. The sand is firm and wide at low tide, which makes it ideal for a proper beach day without the crowds you'd find at busier spots nearby.

Walkers and photographers will get more out of this than families after a full day of beach entertainment, to be honest. The cliffs above offer decent views along the coast, and the lack of facilities means you need to be self-sufficient - bring what you need. There's no shop, no café, nothing, so pack a picnic and plan accordingly.

Staying at one of the caravan parks within five miles - Plas Caravan Park, Shoreside Caravans, or Y Fronydd - gives you easy access without the drive from further afield. It's the sort of beach that works best as part of a quieter Anglesey itinerary rather than a standalone destination.
