Torr Buidhe

The walk up Torr Buidhe from near Colintraive is short enough that you won't regret it, but long enough that you'll feel you've earned the views. The summit sits at just over 400 metres, which means the Cowal Peninsula spreads out beneath you - Loch Eck glinting below, the hills rolling away toward the Trossachs. On a clear day the vista justifies the climb; on a grey one, honestly, you might wonder why you bothered.

This is walker territory, pure and simple. The ascent takes roughly 90 minutes depending on fitness, and the path is well-trodden if occasionally boggy in the lower reaches. Families with young legs will manage it, but expect some grumbling if you've got kids under eight. The real payoff isn't the summit shelter - it's modest - but the fact that from up there you can see exactly where you've come from and plot where you're going next.

There's no charge to climb it, and no facilities at the top, so bring water and something to eat. The nearby Glendaruel Caravan Park makes a sensible base if you're touring the area - Colintraive itself is tiny but has the essentials. This isn't a destination peak that warrants a special journey, but if you're already exploring Argyll's landscapes, it's a solid half-day that rewards effort without demanding too much of it.
