Toothill Rock

Scrambling up the rocky outcrop just outside Stoke-on-Trent, you'll find yourself looking across the Staffordshire moorlands from this proper little viewpoint. The climb isn't much - a gentle walk through heathland that takes about fifteen minutes from the nearest car park.

Up top, the views stretch right across to the Peak District on clear days. It's the sort of spot that rewards you without demanding too much effort, making it ideal for families with older children who can manage the scramble over the rocks at the summit.

Walkers will appreciate this as a decent stopping point on longer moorland rambles, though it's equally good for a quick leg-stretch if you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks. Lower Micklin Touring Park and Quarry Walk Park are both within easy reach, making Toothill Rock a handy excuse to get everyone out for some fresh air.

Being open moorland, it's free to explore and accessible year-round, though winter can be properly bleak up here when the weather turns. Spring through autumn offers the best conditions, with wildflowers dotting the heath in warmer months. Allow an hour for the round trip from parking, longer if you fancy exploring the surrounding area. The kids will enjoy the rock-hopping, and on a good day the views justify the modest effort required.
