A proper woodland walk just outside Preston that locals actually use rather than tourists clogging it up. Tom Benson Walk winds through Lancashire forest with decent footpaths, the kind of place where you'll spot dog walkers and the occasional jogger rather than crowds. The walk itself takes a good hour or so depending on which route you take. Walkers will get the most from this. If you're after a morning stroll before heading to one of the nearby parks - Brylea or Smithills View are closest if you're staying put - it's absolutely worth the detour. Preston itself is right there, so you won't be stuck out in the middle of nowhere. The walk sits well in a broader day out: do this in the morning, grab lunch in Preston, then move on to whichever caravan park suits your needs.
