Timberyard Clump

The woodland at Timberyard Clump sits just outside Bicester, a proper working forest rather than the manicured kind you sometimes get. Walking through here feels like you've actually stepped away from things - the trees are dense enough that you lose sight of the surrounding countryside pretty quickly, which is the whole point really.

It's the sort of place that rewards a slow amble rather than a destination hike. There are paths running through, though they're not signposted to death, and that's refreshing. You get a real sense of what England's woodlands actually look like when they're left to do their thing. The canopy closes in nicely on overcast days, and in autumn it's genuinely worth timing a visit to catch the colour change.

Families with younger kids will get a decent hour here max - it's not vast, and there's nothing specifically laid on. But if you've got teenagers who can handle a ramble without constant entertainment, they'll appreciate it. Walkers passing through the area should absolutely include it; it breaks up a longer route nicely and gives you actual woodland rather than field margins.

Stay at any of the three caravan parks nearby - Weston, Glebe Leisure, or Greenhill - and you're well positioned. None are far away, so it's an easy morning or afternoon slot. Free access, open year-round. Go on a weekday if you can; weekends bring the local dog walkers out in force. Worth the detour if you're in the area, though don't expect marked trails or facilities.
