Thistley Hill

The walk up Thistley Hill rewards you with proper views across the Cotswolds - the sort of landscape that makes you understand why people move here and never leave. It's not a dramatic peak, mind you. The summit sits at a gentle height, but that's actually the point: it's accessible enough for most fitness levels, yet far enough out that you feel you've earned the vista.

From the top, you get a sweeping view of rolling fields and distant woodland. On a clear day, you can pick out various landmarks across the region. It's the kind of walk that takes between an hour and ninety minutes depending on your pace, and there's nothing technical about it - just steady uphill work through pleasant countryside.

Historically inclined types will enjoy knowing this area has been walked for centuries, though Thistley Hill itself isn't a major heritage site. What it is, though, is genuinely useful for breaking up a park holiday near Chipping Campden. If you're staying at Campden Yurts or one of the caravan sites nearby - Ranch Caravan Park is closest at just over two miles - this makes a sensible morning excursion before returning for lunch.

Families with older kids will manage it fine. Younger ones might find it a bit long unless they're keen walkers. The climb's not steep enough to be unpleasant, but it's consistent, which some will find tedious. It's free, obviously, and there's no particular season that's essential - autumn colours are lovely, but spring works just as well.
