Dover's Hill

The views from Dover's Hill near Chipping Campden stretch across three counties on a clear day - that's the real draw here. You're standing on high ground looking out over the Vale of Evesham, with the Malverns visible in the distance if you're lucky with the weather. It's a proper vantage point, the kind of place where locals bring visitors to show off the landscape.

The hill itself is relatively modest - you can walk up from Chipping Campden in under twenty minutes, though the gradient's enough to get your pulse going. Once you're up there, there's a bench and space to sit with a flask. Walkers gravitate here naturally, especially those tackling longer routes through the Cotswolds. History types might know it as the site of the old Cotswold Games, a sort of rural Olympics that ran from the 1600s onwards.

It's free to visit and open year-round - just park in Chipping Campden and walk. Allow an hour including the ascent and time to linger. Morning light is softer than afternoon glare if you're taking photos.

Staying at Campden Yurts or the Broadway Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite puts you within striking distance. Neither requires advance booking for the viewpoint itself, which is useful. The hill works well as a morning stop before heading to other spots in the area - it won't hold your attention for hours, but it's worth the leg stretch. Best visited when the visibility's good; a misty day up here is rather disappointing.
