The Water Tower

A converted Victorian water tower in Flintshire that's been turned into a small museum - the sort of place that makes you wonder how on earth someone decided to live and work inside a cylinder. Kids seem to get a kick out of the climb and the confined spaces - though if anyone's seriously claustrophobic, worth knowing that in advance.

Historically minded adults will find it worthwhile. Industrial heritage types especially. Families with younger children might find it a bit short on interactive elements, though the novelty of climbing a tower usually keeps them engaged.

It's a short drive from Chester, making it easy to slot into a caravan holiday at Fir Trees or Netherwood Touring Site without much faffing about. Not a full-day attraction by any stretch, but a proper bit of local colour that beats another charity shop browse in Chester town centre. Check opening hours ahead - rural museums can be sketchy with seasonal closures.
