The Tower

You'll spot The Tower long before you reach it - a stubby stone structure commanding the skyline above Hope Valley like some miniature fortress that's seen better days. It's essentially a folly, built back in the day on what's otherwise a proper fell walk, and honestly, it's the views that matter far more than the structure itself.

Getting up here means a decent walk from the valley floor, nothing too taxing but enough to get the blood moving. The climb pays off. On a clear day you're looking across the high moors with Mam Tor visible in the distance - proper Peak District drama. Walkers will absolutely rate this as a destination; families with young legs will find it a solid half-day outing without being utterly exhausting.

It's free to visit, obviously, since there's nothing to pay at. Allow a couple of hours for the round trip depending on your pace and how long you fancy standing about admiring the views. Early morning or late afternoon light transforms the moorland into something rather special, so time it right if you can.
