Ox Low

Ox Low sits at 1,415 metres above the Hope Valley - a proper limestone peak that rewards you with views stretching across the Derbyshire hills. The walk itself isn't brutal, but it's exposed once you're up high, so pick a clear day or you'll be staring at cloud for your efforts.

It's a straightforward fell for walkers with decent fitness. Nothing technical, just steady gradient and the usual moorland underfoot - bog in places, rocky outcrops elsewhere. The summit's marked clearly enough, and on a good day you can see right across to the Dark Peak. The real pleasure here is the walk out rather than a single dramatic viewpoint, though walkers tend to mark it as a ticked box rather than a destination in itself.

This works best as part of a broader Derbyshire Peak District loop. If you're camped at Castleton Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite (2.7 miles away) or Derbyshire Hills Campsite (3.9 miles), you've got it within easy striking distance for a half or full day out. Group it with other peaks in the area - Mam Tor and Lose Hill are close enough for a two-peak day.

Go early. The moorland gets busy with Peak District regulars, and parking near the trailhead fills fast on weekends. Expect two to three hours for the round trip depending on fitness and how long you linger at the top. Free, obviously - it's a fell.
