The Parish Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul Rustington

The church sits on a quiet corner of Rustington village, a few miles inland from Littlehampton, and it's genuinely worth a detour if you're camping nearby. The building is Victorian - solid, unpretentious Victorian - with a proper interior that rewards a quick look around. There's decent stained glass and the sort of peace you only find in small parish churches on weekday afternoons.

What makes it work is that it doesn't try to be something it's not. Unlike grander churches, this one feels lived-in, used by actual locals rather than preserved for tourists. The architecture is competent rather than showy, which somehow makes it more appealing. You'll spend maybe twenty minutes inside, half an hour if you're keen on Victorian craftsmanship.

It's ideal if you're staying at South Downs Caravan Park or Littlehampton Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite and fancy a gentle walk through the village. The coastal areas around Littlehampton are the real draw of this corner of Sussex, but if you're taking a day away from the beaches, the church and the village around it make for a pleasant couple of hours. Not essential, but the sort of thing that rounds out a park holiday nicely - low-key, free, and genuinely English in a way that matters.
