About The Knot
What makes it worth the trip is the sense of being somewhere that hasn't been trampled into a tourist attraction. You get fell walkers and locals, but rarely crowds. The views south towards Pendle Hill are excellent on clear days, and the surrounding moorland is genuine Pennine landscape - heather, grit stone, and wind that cuts through. It's the sort of place you visit on a decent day, not when the weather's closing in.
Families with older kids will find it manageable, though younger children might struggle with the gradient. Serious walkers use it as a waypoint on longer routes rather than a destination in itself, which tells you something. It's free, obviously - no facilities up top, so bring water.
Staying at Cross Lane or Brickhouse puts you within easy reach, and it works well as a morning walk before heading into Clitheroe town itself. Not revolutionary, but if you're in the valley and the sun's out, it's worth the climb. The Knot doesn't shout about itself, which is partly why it's worth visiting.
