Braddup Wood

The woodland walk at Braddup Wood, just outside Clitheroe, gives you proper forest without the fuss. It's a straightforward spot - mixed trees, decent paths, the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think. The walk takes about an hour if you amble, less if you're just after a quick stretch of the legs. There's nothing fancy here. No visitor centre, no cafe, no entrance fee as far as anyone can tell. You turn up, you walk, you leave.

It works well for families who want their kids to burn some energy in the woods without traipsing miles. Walkers heading out from Clitheroe often loop it into a longer route across the Ribble Valley. If you're camped at Cross Lane Caravan Park - barely over a mile away - it's an obvious choice for an afternoon. The other parks dotted around the area, like Clitheroe Camping and Caravanning Club Site three miles south, all have similar easy reach.

The real draw is its simplicity. You won't find Instagram moments or rare tree species. What you get is space to breathe, a bit of green, and peace. Go when it's not raining - the paths get muddy and there's nowhere to shelter. Early morning or late afternoon tend to be quietest. It's the sort of woodland that makes sense as part of a bigger Ribble Valley trip rather than a destination in itself, but that's precisely why it works. Local, accessible, no pretence.
