The Green

The Green in Dawlish is a proper old-school seafront spot where locals actually eat their sandwiches, not a manicured photo opportunity. It's a flat, open grassy area right by the beach - the sort of place you can spread a blanket, let the kids run about, and watch the sea without paying for the privilege.

If you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks - Dawlish Sands, Welcome Family, or Haven Devon Cliffs are all within a couple of miles - The Green makes sense as a free alternative to paid attractions on a good weather day. It's the sort of stop you'll forget to mention in your holiday summary but remember fondly when you're back home. There's no entry fee, no opening times to chase down, just a bit of grass by the sea. Don't expect facilities or crowds. Just go when the weather cooperates and you need somewhere quiet to eat lunch.
