You'll get the most out of it if you're into contemporary stuff or local talent rather than hunting for Old Masters. Families with older kids won't be bored, though younger ones might find the visit a bit brief. It's the sort of place that works well as a half-hour break if you're based at one of the nearby parks - Parkdean Resorts Romney Sands is just 3.2 miles away, or Gatehouse Wood if you want something quieter and smaller.

The real value here is that it's genuinely free and gives you a reason to actually explore New Romney itself rather than just pass through. The town's got a decent high street with proper cafes and chip shops, so you can make an afternoon of it. Go on a weekday if you can - weekend afternoons can get a bit busier. It won't change your life, but it's a solid addition to a Romney Marsh holiday without costing you a penny.
