The Fabrick

The Fabrick is a proper standalone peak that rises above the landscape just outside Chesterfield, giving you one of those viewpoints where you genuinely stop and look around. It's not a massive scramble - more of a steady walk up to the summit - but the effort pays off because the views across Derbyshire are solid. On a clear day you can see for miles, which makes the climb worthwhile even if the peak itself is fairly modest in size.

Walkers will get the most from this one. It's the sort of place where you go for the walk itself rather than expecting a cafe or visitor centre at the top - bring a flask if you want to sit and take it in. The gradient isn't punishing, so it works for families with reasonably confident kids, though younger ones might find the final push a bit tedious. Plan on an hour or so depending on your pace and how long you fancy stopping at the summit.

The timing matters. Early morning or late afternoon light transforms the views, and you'll avoid the weekend crowds that sometimes gather. Spring and autumn are probably your best bets - summer can get a bit muggy up there.

If you're based at one of the nearby glamping sites like Slate House Farm or the yurts at Spire View, this makes an easy morning outing before heading elsewhere in the area. It's close enough to Chesterfield that you could combine it with exploring the town itself, though The Fabrick is really about the walk and the views rather than any facilities.
