The Cragg

The Cragg rises about 630 metres above Lancaster and the surrounding countryside - nothing massive by Lake District standards, but the climb rewards you with proper views across the Lune Valley and beyond. The walk itself is straightforward enough, taking roughly two hours from the road, and you'll find yourself moving between moorland and woodland as you ascend.

History buffs might linger knowing the moorland holds traces of ancient settlements, though you won't find anything dramatic to point at. The town becomes a distant grid, and you're suddenly aware of how much landscape surrounds it.
