Teppermoor Hill

The walk up Teppermoor Hill doesn't take long, but the climb is properly steep in places - definitely get your boots on. From the top you're looking out across the Northumberland valleys, and on a clear day the views stretch far enough to make the huff and puff worth it. The surrounding moorland is open and exposed, which means the weather can turn fast, so check the forecast before you head up from Hexham.

This is walker territory. Families with younger kids might find the scramble tedious rather than fun, but teenagers who don't mind a bit of legwork will get something out of it. The real appeal is solitude - you won't fight crowds here like you would on some of the bigger Pennine routes. Allow a couple of hours for a round trip if you're not rushing, longer if you want to properly explore the moorland paths that criss-cross the area.

Stay at Sycamore Glamping Pods or Stonehaugh Campsite and you're well-placed for a walking weekend. Both are within easy striking distance and genuinely highly-rated. The hill works as part of a bigger day out - combine it with walks through the valleys or a poke around Hexham itself if the weather turns sketchy. It's the kind of peak that rewards you for the effort without demanding much in return, which is honestly what you want from a Northumberland ramble.
