Teignmouth Aerodrome (Disused)

Grass now grows where Spitfires once roared down the runway. This former RAF training station, operational during World War Two, sits quietly in the Devon countryside between Exeter and the coast. What remains is essentially an open field with the faint outline of runways still visible to the keen eye, plus a few concrete remnants and the occasional bit of wartime debris.

History buffs will find it properly fascinating - imagining young pilots learning their trade here before heading off to the front lines. But let's be honest, there's not much physical evidence left to see. You're looking at grassy fields, some concrete hardstandings, and that's about your lot. Kids might enjoy a kickabout, but they'll be bored within twenty minutes unless they're properly into aviation history.

Access appears to be via public footpaths, so it's free to wander around. Allow an hour at most, and bring your imagination - you'll need it to picture the bustling wartime activity that once filled this space. The site works well as a brief stop if you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks like Dawlish Sands or Cofton Holidays, but it's hardly worth a special journey. Best combined with a walk along the coast or a trip into Exeter for a proper day out.
