Tavistock Golf Club

An 18-hole course sitting on the edge of Dartmoor, about a mile outside Tavistock, this is proper moorland golf - think rolling fairways, gorse bushes, and views that stretch on forever. The club's been going since 1896, and you can feel that pedigree in the way it's maintained. It's a members' club primarily, but day visitors can usually get a round if you book ahead and have a handicap certificate.

The course itself plays to a decent length and won't forgive loose shots. Wind sweeps across the moor regularly, so even if you're a solid golfer, Tavistock will keep you honest. The rough is genuinely rough - lose a ball here and you're buying another one. Most players allow a good four and a half hours, maybe five if the course is busy.
