Tate St Ives

The moment you walk into this white modernist building overlooking Porthmeor Beach, you understand why artists have been drawn to St Ives for decades. The light hits the gallery differently here - bouncing off the sea and flooding through the upper floors in a way that makes the abstract works on the walls feel less like paintings and more like conversations with the landscape itself.

It's a gallery for people who actually care about art, not just Instagram backdrops. The collection spans 20th-century British and international work, with a proper focus on the artists who made St Ives their home - Barbara Hepworth, Ben Nicholson, Peter Lanyon. You'll spend two to three hours here if you're engaged; forty minutes if you're not. Admission isn't free, but it's reasonable enough.

The top floor is the real draw - huge windows, minimal walls, works that seem to breathe in the sea air.
