About Sweetber

The walk up Sweetber isn't long, but it's proper steep in places. From Skipton, you're looking at a drive into the Yorkshire Dales followed by a decent hike across moorland, and by the time you reach the summit you'll have earned the view across Malhamdale. The peak itself is modest - nothing dramatic, nothing that'll take your breath away beyond the exertion. What makes it worth the effort is the walk itself. The landscape around here is exactly what people come to the Dales for: rolling fell country, dry stone walls cutting through bracken, that specific shade of green you only get in northern England. On a clear day you can pick out Pendle Hill to the west, and the moorland stretches out properly wild. About two hours there and back if you're steady. Families with older kids will manage fine, though the ascent isn't suitable for young legs or buggies. This works well as part of a longer Dales walking trip rather than a destination in itself. If you're based at one of the glamping spots nearby - Malham Glamping Pods is closest at three miles - you could combine it with Malham Cove or a walk around Malham Tarn. Free, obviously. There's limited parking near the trailhead, so go early or mid-week if you can. Best in spring or early autumn when the weather's more cooperative and the midge situation manageable.
