Swanton Lodge Waterfall

The walk to Swanton Lodge Waterfall takes you through proper Norfolk countryside, and honestly, it's the journey that matters more than the destination. You're heading east from Bylaugh, moving away from the flat agricultural land into something altogether greener and more wooded. The waterfall itself is modest - this isn't Niagara Falls - but there's something rather lovely about finding moving water in Norfolk at all, given how pancake-flat most of the county is.

It's a decent spot for a ramble if you're staying nearby, say at Ashcroft Glamping a few miles away. Walkers will appreciate the woodland paths and the novelty factor. Families with young kids might find it underwhelming unless they're the type who get excited about exploring streams and turning over stones. History buffs won't find much to grab onto here - it's nature rather than heritage.

Allow yourself a good couple of hours if you're making a proper afternoon of it, accounting for getting lost at least once. Go in spring or after decent rainfall if you want to see the water actually moving with purpose. Summer visits risk finding it rather sluggish.

There's no visitor infrastructure - no café, no car park facilities, no admission fee that we can find - so come prepared with water and sturdy shoes. It works well as part of a broader Norfolk walking holiday, breaking up the flatness with some actual topography.
