County School Station (Mid-Norfolk Railway)

The Mid-Norfolk Railway runs heritage trains through some proper Norfolk countryside, and County School Station is one of its stops - a genuine railway halt that's been brought back to life. You step off the train onto a platform that feels frozen in time, with the kind of Victorian-era station building that makes you understand why people get sentimental about railways. The station itself is small and straightforward - it's the journey that matters here, really. The line runs between Wymondham and Dereham, cutting through woodland and farmland that would otherwise be invisible from the road.

Kids who've grown up on diesel trains and modern stations will find something genuinely different about being pulled along by a steam engine. You're looking at maybe two or three hours for a proper visit - enough time for the train ride itself plus a wander around the station building and a cup of tea if there's a tea room operating. Bylaugh is close by, and if you're basing yourself at Bylaugh Country Park Caravan and Campsite or Ashcroft Glamping, the Mid-Norfolk Railway is an easy afternoon activity without having to travel far. Norfolk Coast Caravans and Camping is a bit further out but still within reach for a day trip.
