This small woodland sits just outside Guildford and offers the sort of gentle forest path that works better for a mid-morning wander than a full-day adventure. The trees crowd in close enough to feel properly wooded without any of the grand drama you'd get from somewhere like Alice Holt Forest further afield.

It's worth the detour if you're based at one of the nearby parks - Wyldecrest Surrey Hills, Chapel Farm, or Chantry Wood are all within spitting distance. Families with young kids will manage it fine; there's nothing taxing about it, though it's not thrilling enough to hold attention for more than an hour or so. Walkers doing a longer loop through the Surrey Hills will find it a useful leg between other spots rather than a destination in itself.

The ground can get boggy after rain, so appropriate footwear matters. Bring a dog if you've got one - it's the sort of place where that actually enhances the experience. There's limited information about formal facilities or opening hours, so assume it's open to foot traffic during daylight. It's free, naturally, being a local wood.

Guildford lies just down the road if you need anything more substantial afterwards. Strawberry Grove works best as a quick forest fix rather than a main event, but that's not nothing on a Surrey camping break.
