Storling Bank

The walk up Storling Bank starts quietly enough, a steady climb through farmland before the path kicks up proper. By the time you reach the top near Presteigne, the Mid Wales landscape opens out below you - rolling moorland stretching away, punctuated by the occasional isolated farmstead. It's not dramatic in the way the Brecons can be, but there's something honest about it.

The peak itself is more working hill than destination viewpoint. You won't find a trig point or a café, just grass, wind, and the sense that you've earned a decent vantage point. Walkers will find it a solid afternoon's outing - the approach is moderate rather than punishing, and the views reward the effort without demanding crampons or a head for heights.

Allow two to three hours depending on fitness and whether you're the type to stop and stare. The best light hits in late afternoon, and honestly, weekday mornings beat weekends for peace. Free to access, obviously - just park sensibly near Presteigne and respect the land.

It pairs well with the broader Powys walking scene. If you're based at Hush Hush Glamping or Presteigne Holiday Park - both proper good spots, by the way - this works as a half-day excursion without overshadowing time at Rockbridge Park or exploring the market town itself. Not the most famous hill in Wales, but that's partly the point.
