St.Ives

St Ives itself is the attraction. This isn't some museum you tick off in an hour - it's a working seaside town where you'll actually want to spend a day wandering. The harbour is the obvious draw: fishing boats still unload their catch, the beach is genuinely good for swimming, and the light here genuinely is something painters have been raving about for over a century. The Barbara Hepworth Museum and the Tate St Ives are excellent if you're into modern art, though both charge admission. Walk up through the narrow streets above the harbour and you'll find decent cafes, proper fish and chips, and views across the bay that justify every Instagram post ever taken here. The town gets rammed in summer - if you can, come in April or September when it's manageable. You'll need a full day to do it justice, or come back twice. Families with younger kids do fine here for a few hours on the beach, but teenagers and adults will find more to occupy themselves. It pairs well with a base at Polmanter Touring Park, just over a mile away, or if you want something closer to the beach, Haven Riviere Sands or St Ives Holiday Village are both within easy reach. The real point of St Ives is taking your time - grab a coffee by the harbour, watch the boats, let the place work on you. That's why people keep coming back.
