Stennack Wood

Stennack Wood is a proper woodland walk just outside Redruth, the sort of place you'll stumble upon if you're exploring the quieter side of mid-Cornwall rather than hunting for it specifically. The forest floor is thick with moss and leaf litter, and the canopy closes in overhead quickly - it feels removed from the mining heritage sites that dominate the area. You're looking at a mixed woodland with decent paths threading through, nothing too demanding, and it's the kind of spot where you'll actually hear birdsong rather than coach parties.

Walkers will get the most from this, honestly. It's not dramatic or famous, so families after a quick splash-about or climbers wanting cliffs should look elsewhere. What you get instead is genuine quiet - proper woodland, not landscaped amenity green space. Allow 45 minutes to an hour for a decent loop, depending on how much you dawdle. The nearest town is Redruth, which is useful for supplies but won't change your plans.

If you're based at one of the caravan parks nearby - Lanyon is closest at just over two miles away - this makes a decent stretch-your-legs stop before or after a lazy afternoon at the holiday park. It's not a full day out, but as a morning walk before heading to the coast or exploring Gwennap Pit and the old mining trails, it'll do the job. Free access, as far as I can tell, and you won't need to book.
